DDR-DPRK TRÄHEIT
All
along the Cold War, East Germany maintained diplomatic relations with
North Korea, while West Germany did with South Korea. Therefore a number
of political and cultural parallels among the DDR and North Korea can
be made.
For this piece Zabo has collected audio samples from the DDR and the
DPRK, including field recordings from the loud speakers wars over the
Berlin Wall and the DMZ, Radar sounds, morse voice generators and music
of propaganda. She performs while resting on the prepared keyboard, the
weight of her elbows randomly trigger the samples while she is in a
state of total inertia.

political and cultural parallels between the GDR and North Korea.
For this piece, I prepared my keyboard of audio extracts from the GDR and
the DPRK, including recordings of loudspeaker battles
above the Berlin Wall and the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas, sounds of radars, Morse voice generators and propaganda music. When performing, I play in a semi-dormant manner on my keyboard where the weight of my elbows triggers sounds randomly while I am in a state of inertia.
Throughout the Cold War, East Germany maintained diplomatic relations with North Korea, while West Germany engaged with South Korea. As a result, we can draw several political and cultural parallels between the GDR and North Korea.
For this composition, I've incorporated audio extracts from both the GDR and the DPRK. This includes recordings of loudspeaker battles above the Berlin Wall and the demilitarized zone between the two Koreas, as well as sounds of radars, Morse voice generators, and propaganda music. During the performance, I play the keyboard in a semi-dormant state, where the weight of my elbows randomly triggers sounds, creating a unique auditory experience while I am in a state of inertia.
